The Ministry of Health added 10,250 coronavirus patients in Vietnam on Tuesday, together with 6,481 recoveries and 87 deaths.

The latest infections, including nine imported and 10,241 local cases, were documented in 59 provinces and cities, the ministry said, elaborating that 4,369 patients were infected the community.

Ho Chi Minh City reported 1,183 of the domestic transmissions, Binh Thuan Province 1,048, Tay Ninh Province 683, Tien Giang Province 671, Dong Nai Province 631, Binh Duong Province 607, An Giang Province 482, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 300, Can Tho City 158, Hanoi 158, Khanh Hoa Province 150, Quang Nam Province 61, and Da Nang 34.

Vietnam had recorded 8,603 locally-infected patients on Monday.

The Southeast Asian country has confirmed 1,040,346 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave flared up on April 27. A total of 868,180 of them have recovered from COVID-19.

Ho Chi Minh City has been the largest epicenter with 449,776 patients, followed by Binh Duong Province with 244,720, Dong Nai Province with 79,262, Long An Province with 36,699, Tien Giang Province with 21,951, An Giang Province with 18,600, Tay Ninh Province with 17,046, Kien Giang Province with 14,981, Dong Thap Province with 14,143, Khanh Hoa Province with 10,534, Can Tho City with 9,555, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province with 7,130, Hanoi with 6,629, and Da Nang with 5,265.

Vietnam logged merely 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.

The health ministry announced 6,481 recovered patients on Tuesday, elevating the total to 870,997.

The toll has jumped to 23,270 fatalities after the ministry registered 87 deaths on the same day, including 35 in Ho Chi Minh City, seven in Binh Duong Province, six in Long An Province, and the remainder in 15 other provinces and cities.  

Vietnam has detected 1,045,397 infections since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit it early last year.

Health workers have given over 100 million vaccine doses, including 1,089,217 jabs on Monday, since vaccination was rolled out nationwide on March 8.

More than 36 million people have received two jabs.

Health authorities in the country of nearly 98 million people target to fully vaccinate 80 percent of the adults and 100 percent of those aged 12 to under 18 by the end of this year, according to a draft government plan for COVID-19 response in 2021-23.

From 2022 onward, 100 percent of people aged 12 and above will either be fully immunized against the coronavirus or even get booster shots.

Children from three to under 12 years old will be fully inoculated in accordance with World Health Organization guidelines.
